Rent Party TONIGHT

Rent Party
Hosted by Jon Friedman
Friday April 28th
Mo Pitkin's House of Satisfaction
34 Avenue A (b. 2nd and 3rd St.)
7:30 PM

A benefit show for the individual.

What is a rent party?
A rent party is a party in which tenants hire a musician or band to play for a party and pass around a hat to raise money to pay their rent. The rent party played a major role in the development of jazz and blues music. In this case, comedian Jon Friedman revives the "rent party" and extends it to comedy to help individuals with causes outside of just paying rent.

This month's Rent Party is to benefit Peter Kassnove and Kim Ritter who were victims of a burglary. Kim and Peter were recently engaged but lost the engagement ring during the robbery. All proceeds from this months show will help them recover some of their losses.

Jon Friedman invites friends and comedians to come out and perform for a good cause.

Hello, I'm Special - tonight!

HELLO, I'M SPECIAL: THE CONTEST

Hosted by CHELSEA PERETTI

Featuring HAL NIEDZVIECKI and his new book HELLO, I’M SPECIAL: HOW INDIVIDUALITY BECAME THE NEW CONFORMITY

What happens when you throw a couple of comedy writers, Broadway’s Jewish Diva, fiercely talentless dancers, an angry Canadian writer, and impertinent audience members into a theater, ply them with booze, and pit them against each other in a contest for the title of “Most Special Person Ever?” A highbrow battle? A lyceum for lowlifes? We can’t say for sure, but the launch of this series – part salon, part reading, lots of shtick – will definitely be special.

Special guests and celebrity judges include:

MICHAEL SHOWALTER (Stella, The Baxter), JACKIE HOFFMAN (Broadway diva), ERIC DRYSDALE (The Colbert Report), ANDREA ROSEN (Variety Shac), MEREDITH SCARDINO (Late Night With David Letterman), JESSE OXFELD (Gawker), JOE GARDEN (The Onion), and VIDS (Varsity Interpretive Dance Squad).

Wednesday, April 26 at 8 p.m.

Ars Nova Theater: 511 West 54th Street, at 10th Avenue

New comedy baby: Agnes Shillue!

Nothing (no, not even funny jokes or cupcakes) makes me happier than news of a new baby being born to someone I know, so I was very happy to get Tom Shillue's latest email with the news that he's now the proud father of baby Agnes! Congratulations, Tom, who also now has a Treophone blog, where he lets us know that he somehow managed to put together a slideshow of 2-day-old Agnes! I'm sure you comedians can figure out how to turn that into a joke; I feel like babies today are going to have their every yawn, poop and wail recorded on video. Not saying that's a bad thing, since I will surely do the same thing, and the biological clock ticking part of me of course adores the photos.

Video Gaga!

As you should know well by now, I am indeed obsessed (still) with the hilarious Sara Schaefer, so I was very happy to see that she has a new show, Video Gaga, debuting May 1st. As long as she sticks the phrase "rock bottom" in there somewhere (and maybe some Ida), I'll be happy (even if she doesn't do those things, I'm sure it'll be a fabulous show). It even has its own MySpace page (where, if you click on more pics, there's a Menudo one, and the show's relationship status is listed as "Swinger") where I got these details:

Comedy + Music Videos = Awesome.

Hilarious music videos by local comedians, hosted by Sara Schaefer. With a live musical act, sketches, special guests, glittery dance numbers, and moxie to boot.

Schaefer recently ended a run of her acclaimed show Sara Schaefer is Obsessed With You. She has been featured on Vh1's Best Week Ever and was a Backstage "Top Ten Standout Standups 2005". Schaefer co-produces the show with John Kingman. For information, check www.saraschaefer.com.

FIRST SHOW: MONDAY MAY 1, 8 p.m.

Musical Guest: Bravo Silva

With videos by Cracked Out, The Hazzards, and Stuckey & Murray!

Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre
307 W 26th Street btw 8th and 9th
Tickets $5, reserve at www.ucbtheatre.com

Who I'd like to meet:
People who still believe in music videos.

True Sex Confessions TONIGHT at In The Flesh!!!

As seen in Flavorpill and Jossip and the Hoboken Reporter (and now on YouTube!), tonight is the BIG night. All my readers are fabulous and are going to kick ass, and I'm also going to be on the radio at 1 am with Josh Kilmer-Purcell on The Joey Reynolds Show on WOR 710 radio. Get to Happy Ending early to get a seat!

We've got a comedian, a blogger/Playboy model/novelist/scandal star, a college sex columnist, a former drag queen who has a special surprise during his set, an advice columnist, an editor/sex worker/nude model and an editor/memoirist (and me!) all sharing their true sex confessions. And free candy and mini cupcakes. What more could you ask for?

Here's a teaser: someone's talking about their porn obsession, someone's shoving candy up their ass (or mimicking it), someone's talking about trying to have sex in the stacks, someone's talking about unprotected sex, someone's talking about bad reasons to have sex, someone's talking about a visit with a prostitute, and someone's talking about fisting. You have to show up tonight to find out who's who!
